Rockgitarist Gary Moore (Belfast, Noord-Ierland) is overleden. Moore speelde in Thin Lizzy, en werd later bekend als sologitarist. Zijn grootste succes was met Still Got the Blues, het album uit 1990. Hij zou eind mei nog een exclusief concert geven op het Blues & Rock Festival Highlands in Amersfoort.
The White Stripes houden er mee op. “It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way “, aldus de band. Ze scoorden een monsterhit met “Seven Nation Army“.
Primus komt na (zeer) lange tijd weer eens naar Europa. Ze zijn alvast geboekt voor Azkena Rock Festival (23-25 juni, Spanje), Heineken Open’er Festival (30 juni – 3 juli, Polen) en het Kongsberg Jazzfestival (6-9 juli, Noorwegen). Op Last.fm staat ook een datum in Parijs (22 juni), en een optreden op 5 juli in Berlijn en meer data worden snel toegevoegd. Vandaag werd bekend dat ze ook naar Nederland komen: zaterdag 18 juni, Paradiso. Voorverkoop begint op vrijdag 11 februari. Kosten 25 Euro (excl.).
Rock Werchter heeft weer een paar namen toegevoegd: All Time Low, Kaiser Chiefs, Social Distortion, The National en White Lies. Al bevestigd waren: Artic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, The Gaslight Anthem, Elbow, PJ Harvey, Portishead, Coldplay, Robyn, Two Door Cinema Club en Iron Maiden.
Op de Zwarte Cross (15-17 juli) staan op het Aardschok Podium in de Metalweide: Fozzy, Helloween, Mother Misery, My City Burning, Pagan’s Mind en Sepultura. Eerder bekend waren al: Anthrax, Crimson Glory, Disabuse, Life of Agony en Madball.
Paaspop in Schijndel (22-24 april) heeft een berg nieuwe namen: Army Of Freshmen, Gili, Go Back to the Zoo, Goose Live, Heideroosjes Theatershow, Liptease and the Backstreet Crackbangers, Mambo Kurt, Memphis Maniacs, Mighty Fools, Miss Montreal, Moss, Puur Gelul, Shaking Godspeed, The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, The Hot Stewards, The Jim Jones Revue, The Phantom Four & The Arguido, Tiga, Two Cow Garage en Urban Voodoo Machine.

Vlak over de grens bij Nijmegen in Duitsland is Haldern Pop, dat zal plaatsvinden van 12 t/m 14 augustus. Bevestigde bands daar zijn: Anna Calvi, Dan Mangan, Fleet Foxes, Golden Kanine, Hauschka, LaBrassBanda, Miss Li, Socalled en The Wombats.
