‘Jazz / Impro / Techno / Ambient / Drone / akustisches Flair / elektronischer Background’, dat omschrijft het wel (hier). Of : ‘Fogh Depot is a trio performing dark jazz, live electronic and ambient music’ aldus hun eigen Bandcamp-pagina en darkjazz, doomjazz, live-electronic, hip-hop, bebop jazz, experimental aldus hun Facebook-pagina. Normaal gesproken kan jazz me enorm nerveus maken, maar dit zit mooi ingebakken in zoveel sfeer en spanning, dat het me behoorlijk aanspreekt. Omzichtige opbouw en mooie gelaagdheid. Het is dus niet alleen maar improvisatie en eindeloos gesoleer. Integendeel. Fogh Depot intrigeert. Soms vreemd, maar wel… Nou ja, je snapt het….

… aside from the legendary Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, Mount Fuji Doomjazz Orchestra (which are related projects) and Bohren and der Club of Gore there really is a disappointing deficit of similar style bands. Fortunately Fogh Depot shines alongside those acts in an unarguably parallel fashion and their new material is truly impressively inventive.
