Week 8 inmiddels en deze week is Electric Eye in de aanbieding met Different Sun.
Een van die fijne psychrockbands die definitief op mijn lijstje ‘bands om in de gaten te houden’ zijn beland. Gezien overigens op Let’s Get Lost (2014) en Eindhoven Psych Lab (2015). De Noorse band zoekt op het tweede album, zo op het eerste gehoor, wat meer naar melodie (en zang) en rust, maar toch zit er genoeg in het vat. De groep lijkt zich te ontwikkelen, richting een eigen geluid en zonder het avontuur uit het oog te verliezen.
… Through 40 minutes the listener is this time taken on seven journeys, all drenched in tape echo, sitar sounds, backwards guitar solos, bongos and monotonous fuzz bass. … Different Sun doesn’t disappoint in doing so. With blistering guitars that ring with reverb, it’s an enlightening journey that spans the shifting sands of desert rock, the swirling seas of psychedelia and the stony surfaces of classic rock. Electric Eye have gone for the full retro feel here, yet in doing so they still keep a modern air about them that doesn’t make listeners want to just dismiss it. – Louder than War
