Week 49. Deze week was Electric Eye in de aanbieding met From The Poisonous Tree.
Nou ik heb wel een hele hoop psych-albums in de aanbieding de laatste tijd. Wat geeft het. Het Noorse Electric Eye, sinds 2014 of zo op mijn favorieten-lijstje, ontwikkelde zich de laatste jaren in een wat flauwere soft-psych-richting. Dacht ik. Mooi verkeerd gedacht. Met wat meer melodie (of song-gericht zo u wilt), een regelmatig gebruikte sitar, maar bovenal ook met meer jazzy schwung, swing en (soms zelfs poppy) grooves heeft de band zichzelf juist een goede kant op ontwikkeld. Een smakelijk plaatje waar veel op te ontdekken valt en juist niet zo voorspelbaar is als sommige soortgenoten. Volgens de heren zelf: ‘Electric Eye play droned out psych-rock inspired by the blues, India and the ever more expanding universe. On the bands inspirational mix tape, you will probably find songs from the The Black Angels, Wooden Shjips and Pink Floyd in Pompeii.’
